Civics Lesson

by Ryan at 5:47 am and filed under: Election 2008, Malkinization

The way we elect our President kinda sucks. But we’re stuck with it.

As is the case for any Good American, my favorite Amendment to rail against is the Twelfth. It’s the one that requires the separate elections for the offices of Prez and Vice Prez. It has effectively entrenched the Two Party System in the United States, although the text of the amendment does not directly call for this. For instance, it’s possible for the same individual to win both offices. (I have faith some knowledgeable wingnut will rudely correct me on this, and then label me a tril-o-trog, or its equivalent.)

Reminder of how it’s all supposed to go down: Although we each cast a ballot for a ticket, e.g., Marx/Engles, based on the rules we are choosing an elector who will go to D.C. to cast a Presidential vote for Marx and a Vice Presidential vote for Engles, unless either Marx or Engles is a resident of the elector’s state, of course. A majority clinches the respective office.

“Michelle Malkin” commented on one of “her” own “posts” the other day:

[T]here were plenty of viewers who are voting Palin/McCain who were watching the show.

I *urge* “Michelle” to write-in the “Palin/McCain” ticket on her ballot(s), because a vote for Palin/McCain is essentially a vote for an elector pledging to vote for Palin as President, McCain as Vice President. And that’s polling somewhere slightly below Marx/Engles.

  1. Engels, dammit. Abbott and Costelloe, Laurel and Hardie, Marx and Engles.
