Blaming the Victim

by Ryan at 1:04 am and filed under: Malkin Controversies

Oliver Willis sent along a link to Michelle blaming the victim of a horrendous murder on O’Reilly’s show. Any decent, empathetic person would have responded to Bill’s question thusly: “The only person to blame for this act is the murderer. The killed do not choose their murderers; murderers choose their victims.”

It must be seen to be believed.

  2. I guess what she is saying is everyone needs to be more afraid, RIGHT NOW.

  3. It is pretty bad when Bill O’Reilly becomes the voice of reason. Hasn’t this happened twice now with Malkin?

  4. The vunerable position she referred to was an 18 year-old woman who got drunk in a seedy area of New York City. According to the medical examiner, she was murdered around 3am.

Yeah, the murderer should be penalized. But the victim should have thought twice about the possible results of her crazy actions.

How do you know she didn’t? You’re making it seem as if there is someone to blame for her rape and murder other than the rapist/murderer. Abhorrent.

  6. Yes. Anyone that is walking around in New York City at 3am after their car breaks down deserves to die. Stupid liberal moonbat probably wasn’t even carrying a firearm.

Ryan, you seem to enjoy twisting the meaning of words. I stated the murderer should be penalized. That is obvious.

You ask - How do I know she didn’t think twice? Well, if she did think about it for longer than a couple seconds, as most normal people would, she would have realized that being

    - an 18 year-old woman

    - getting totally shit-faced

    - in a crappy section of New York City and

    - staying out most of the night

was not a very smart decision. That was her decision, not the murderer’s.

If she used her common sense, she would not be dead today.
And yes, I will repeat once again, the murderer should be penalized.

  8. No word twisting there. You’ve laid out, in detail, why you believe the young woman is partially to blame for her own rape and murder. Therefore, you are saying there is someone in addition to the murderer and rapist who is at fault–namely, the victim.

  9. Wow! Your logic is warped.
Pardon me while I put on Ryan’s hat.

I put on a blindfold on [aka drunk] and I cross a very busy street in New York City [aka seedy location]. Halfway across the street [aka 3am] I am hit by a speeding car [aka murderer].

Ryan’s Logic: Don’t blame me!!! There was no way any logical thinking person could have foreseen this would happen. I ignored all signs of common sense. It was 100% the fault of the speeding drive.

My Logic: I don’t wear a blindfold when I cross a busy street. I use my common sense.

See any similarity to the original story?

  12. If I rape all the little boys who come into my yard, it is their own fault they were raped.

  13. I know lots of families who go by this whole thing of making thier daughters stay at home, or not stay out so late for fear that something might happen to them. Yet when it came to their sons, they’re given a little more freedom. It’s because they feel their boys could take care of themselves better and more likely be able to defend themselves if anything happened. Their logic is that women are more vulnerable. And because of that we all know that women need to be more careful of what they do and where they go. I think thats part of where this comes from, that if a woman is to be attacked at a certain place or time of day, she should get at least partial blame. All because “she should have known better.”

Seriously, why the hell is it that rape is the only “blue-collar” crime the conservatives are soft on? At least rhetorically– they talk the tough talk while cutting funding for law enforcement. It really shows where their true motivations are coming from.

The fact that we are still debating victim-blaming in the 21st century is absurd. JBenson2, please read this

  15. RavenStar, men are actually far more likely to be violently victimzed by a stranger while walking in the street. By that logic girls should be allowed to stay out later.
