I have a problem with that article. It’s basically setting up a strawman when it states..
Some people took this as proof that the war on Iraq had been planned before September 11, 2001, in order to transfer control of Iraqi oilfields to American companies.
[…]
But I’d like to believe that the story died because honest reporters looked into the allegations and saw that it was a bullshit story. There is nothing suspicious about an energy task force gathering information about major oil wells, no matter where they are. Oil is a commodity, Iraqi oil was on the market under the oil-for-food program, and it would have been very strange if Cheney’s group had neglected this.
No, the proof that they had planned the war in Iraq before 9/11 is that they started discussing the war in Iraq before 9/11! There’s nothing wrong with planning out wars before there is a justification for them, right? And sure, there’s nothing suspicious about an energy task force planning what to do with Iraq’s oil in case that war should happen, if you are a believer in economic imperialism. The press may have not gotten the entire picture, but this was not a bullshit story. The rest of the article is fine, but it starts off on the wrong foot.
