Auguste, video production consultant
Tip 1: When working with a green screen, don’t use a prop which has green elements.

Tip 2: Tagline selection is very important. “Keep fishing for the truth” is not very good. Since fishing is generally speaking a hit-and-miss affair, it implies that the truth is very hard to find when one is watching Vent.
On second thought, I guess it’s a really good analogy after all.
(It’s almost - almost, mind you - worth watching the actual video just for the fishing pole scene. Greater production values have not been seen since my third grade project “The Haunted Kitchen” pioneered the “stop-motion-animation-with-occasionally-appearing-hand” technique.)

Her t-shirt is too small.

Is this on a teevee channel? Furthermore, are these the best production values think tank money can buy? For shame, Michelle, for shame…

Isn’t ‘hot air’ a euphemism for not having any substance?
In fact Dan Froomkin uses it in his column’s title today.
Comment by Aitch — April 25, 2006 @ 7:00 pm
teh, you have missed the entire new Hot Air phenomenon. ALthough, I would add that she basically says to Pajamas: “if you had half a brain you would have done somthing like this”
Michelle DOES have half a brain, and Hot Air looks a lot better than PJs ever did or will.

What in the hell? Is it 1987 again? And that’s supposed to be a kid’s fishing pole?

First off, i’m a conservative. So you know where i’m coming from. Second…Holy crap, that chick Malkin is fug! How can u be a minority journalist in this country and NOT get a real TV gig if you want one? Well, if you’re Malkin, and you exhibit that special brand of “suck-ass”, then it’s real easy. Fugly, annoying, boring. Yep, sounds like something I wanna watch on the Internet. Does her husband work his ass off at the RAND Corp all day just so she can piss around with a video camera at home? Maybe she should be making herself useful and actually practicing what she preaches with respect to homeschooling her kids?

Figures. Even when neocons are “agreeing with me”, they still have to be sexist. Can’t help yourself, buddy, can you?
Comment by Auguste — April 26, 2006 @ 7:17 am
The visuals remind me of “Talk Soup” with Greg Kinnear, from E! Entertainment Television, vintage 1992.

The thing that bugs me most about Michelle’s show is that she does not STAND UP STRAIGHT. I find myself cocking my head to watch her because of her leaning to one side. Now I know why she has to resort to producing her own show on the internet. She’ll never make it on TV.
Comment by Diane — April 26, 2006 @ 4:44 pm
No i’m not being “sexist” - I’d say the same thing about a dude who sucked ass. Man this broad is lame.
Comment by NeoCon — April 26, 2006 @ 6:16 pm
She really does have a terribly flat delivery style. It definitely reminded me of what the A/V kids in high school used to spend all their time doing . . . boring the rest of us silly.

Ki-yi-yi. What smug, amateurish garbage. “Cheat River”? “Here comes the Whitewater”? Hypocrisy isn’t any better when it’s smart and funny, but that’s no excuse for not being smart and funny.

This whole operation really embodies what early 90s rappers called “mad corny”.
Comment by Ryan — April 26, 2006 @ 10:07 pm
What the hell is that in her hands? Is that some sort of anal intruder toy?
Comment by Tarkus — April 27, 2006 @ 5:25 am
Doesn’t that symbol in the lower left violate an Aljazeera trademark?
Comment by Castro's Dog — April 27, 2006 @ 12:11 pm
My favorite (perhaps not where this screenshot was taken from; couldn’t watch is all the way through) was her talking about Flight 93 and saying “Rush Limbaugh calls it, ‘Powerful’” with a quick shot of the Rush. Oh my god. Now that’s just freaking funny. “Hailed by ‘Sassy’! Jesse Helms gives it two thumbs up!”

Lets see…have we all followed the official Malkin(s)watch commenting guidelines here? Make fun of Michelle’s T-shirt. Check. Make fun of her video. Check. Ridicule her style of delivery. Check. Call her “fugly.” Check. Make fun of her posture? Check. Make crude sexual references(frustrated, anyone?)to her props? Check and check. If this is what passes for critique of MM’s Hot Air site, she has nothing to worry about. Doesn’t it speak volumes that this whole website is devoted to watching and listening to her every action and word? What does that say exactly? The woman you all love to hate - or hate the thought of loving..or…which is it? LOL, lighten up people. Do you all ever engage in any serious debate of her opinions - or is it all just about name-calling and ridicule?
Comment by Con Ky — May 1, 2006 @ 4:28 am
It would be beneath the intelligence of a lawn gnome to seriously debate Michelle’s opinions.
