Like much of the international press, the Malkins fell for that story about Comrade B. Hussein O. X. gifting a $30k ring to his wife. It’s not true, and although all the sites linked to in the MM.com post have updated to correct the story, Michelle put up a glib, “Update: Not true?”

A few things:

• The Malkins sarcastically asked, “How long before someone screams RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACIST?” referring to the hard-right position that racist criticisms of Barack Obama shouldn’t be called racist. I don’t think the fake story itself is racist, but Michelle’s use of “Bling” as a caption for the jewelry graphic is: Would Michelle have chosen “bling” had this been President-elect Clinton purchasing her husband a comparably priced watch? No.
• Michelle Malkin is displaying a remarkable bitterness stemming from the abject failure of her savior, The Gov. Palin, and she’s taking it out on her own credibility. When something so trivial as a tale about a fake ring comes up, and Obama doesn’t merely decline to comment, but denies the report, she can’t take him at his word. Yes, Pres. Bush received similar treatment, but only after building a strong reputation as a poor manager and a liar. Michelle could at least let Obama do that first.
• Michelle’s post actually has the word “criminey” in it. This term falls slightly ahead of “fiddle sticks” but behind “tarnation” on the Absolute Profanity Scale published biannually by the American Enterprise Institute in concert with Charles Krauthammer’s upper lip.

Michelle (and, I believe, Jesse) Malkin propelled a video of an undercover report on Planned Parenthood of Indiana. The PP staff member is apparently shown covering up for a reported statutory rape. If true, she should be held accountable to her employer and the state.

That said, the Malkins tend to treat sources from the “other” side as dubious. Her treatment of the Murtha-Haditha Massacre and Jamil Hussein scandals are the most notable case. The former she got almost right, the latter totally wrong.

Here the perspective is switched. The video running on MM.com has obvious signs of heavy editing and poor camera work. (I’m sure the investigators would be willing to hand over the original tapes if the state needs that evidence.)

I know Bloomington, Indiana pretty well, and I have been in that Planned Parenthood building. It is not an “abortion clinic” as claimed in Live Action Films’s press release (reprinted at the Malkin link above). As far as I can recall, there are no doctors in Bloomington who perform abortions. The building does not have the facilities required to perform surgical procedures. If Michelle and Jesse held this exposé to the same standards they hold the Associated Press and CNN, they would be posting the phone numbers and home addresses of the anti-abortion students behind the video, because, honestly, they need to “grow up and take responsibility.“

Earlier today, Michelle and Jesse followed the lead of Greater Wingnuttia and linked approvingly to a John Ziegler’s hack operation HowObamaGotElected.com.

(The) Malkin(s) blogged that it was because “[s]tupid people voted,” yet in an interview with Nate Silver of 538 dot com, Ziegler said, “The point here was not to show that Obama supporters were idiots — there are plenty of idiots on both sides of the aisle — but what information they got from the media that they were able to consume.”

It is fresh in the active political junky’s mind that Candidate Hillary Clinton, came under figurative sniper-fire over remarks over claims of literal sniper-fire. She eventually recanted.

That the actual threat of violence was nonexistent is beyond the point; Michelle is taking the connotation of violence towards then-First Lady and applying it directly to a sitting Senator, glibly implying, “Maybe she’ll actually get shot this time.”

Unacceptable, and beyond the border encompassing the Unhinged.

It’s not exactly news, but back during my extended absence, Howard Kurtz kindly mentioned this blog in a MM profile:

Although it may be the case that Obama will keep some of the country’s torture apparatus in place–I hope to all get out he doesn’t–it’s not worth whining about it. Fake-Captain Ed:

If Obama now agrees with McCain on this issue, that’s an improvement — but will the press treat Obama like they treated McCain? Will they start talking about him as though he was the reincarnation of the Marquis de Sade and Vidkun Quisling rolled up into one person? The MoveOn/Code Pink fringe certainly will, especially after his reversal on FISA reform this summer, on which the media largely gave him a pass.

I suspect they will give him a pass on this occasion, too. And that will speak volumes about their dishonest and vitriolic attacks on McCain in February, smearing his honor for partisan political purposes.

It won’t “speak volumes” to anyone who doesn’t already believe the “in the tank for Barry” narrative already. If it comes to pass that Obama makes a 180 (or any turn less than a 90), the press will push a “flip-flop watch,” and add it to the hell they’re inevitably going to give him for the “Obama Recession.”

Bottom line: Fake-Captain Ed is upset that his side lost so magnificently; he’ll be whining about this kind of thing for the next 8+ years, god willing.

bill ayers wouldn’t be able to “cash in” if people like michelle malkin hadn’t been talking about him so much. you could argue that malkin and ayers are directly profiting off each other. malkin is making money by railing about ayers and ayers is making money by riding the notoriety that he gets from that said railing. they’re like symbiotic business partners.

And we must extend this to the bloggers Michelle Malkin pays–most notably the guys at Hot Air. If blogger’s pay was based on results, the Malkinites would have filed for Chapter 11 last week.

Michelle’s jihad du jour is against John McCain’s inability to go after his own staff for trashing Sarah Palin. Michelle is so angry she called Johnny Mac by the horrifyingly uncivil nickname “McLame.”

From the man whose best-sellers include “Why Courage Matters” and “Character Is Destiny” comes this underwhelming reaction to the cowardly smearing of Sarah Palin by his own unnamed staffers: “These things happen.”

Not: “Shame on the leakers. I denounce and renounce them.”

Not: “I’m going to get to the bottom of this and make sure those blabbermouths never work in a major campaign again.”

Just: “These things happen.”

A first point: Michelle is taking this whole episode far too personally. This would be like getting pissed at Ben Affleck for saying J-Lo was the reason Gigli sucked so bad. Michelle never liked McCain and detested having to support his candidacy. But she did it anyway. And against her better judgment.

Not that she should have latched onto Gov. Palin so readily; she is the Executive of the #1 welfare state in the Union after all. And that gets into the thick of it. Senator McCain is going to back to the United States Senate and probably taking a good portion of his staff with him. Sarah Palin is going back to that great, snowy, welfare state of Alaska (i.e., paradise for hillbillies in Washington-speak).

The Senator likely knows who is smearing Palin, post-Epic Fail.

The Senator is convinced that the rumors are true.

Nothing Michelle can do will make Sen. McCain give a shit. No amount of questioning his character. It doesn’t matter how frequently she labels hidden enemies as suffering from “Palin Derangement Syndrome.”

MM = Irrelevant.

It’s been less than a week and the loyal opposition has been just that–unwaveringly loyal. Since Comrade Hussein hasn’t even had a chance to put forward an agenda as yet, the Capt. Ed Morrisseys of the Right-o-Sphere are left with the tactics that didn’t help them put McCain ahead.

The Supreme Court left the US in the position of either blowing the cover of intel resources by forcing the government to provide constitutional protections to enemies of the US at war with our nation, or releasing them to plan more attacks. Either Obama or McCain would have to deal with that ridiculous position, and so far, Obama seems to be pursuing the same basic strategy that the Court rejected twice.

Eventually, this whole myth that Obama is too inexperienced to make sound decisions will go away. Until then, we’ll have to put up with anti-Constitution conservatives like Capt. Ed.

Here’s a rundown of what’s likely to happen:

Judges reading between the lines of the GTMO decisions will refuse to hear cases based on secret evidence, regardless of what the Executive and Legislative branches want. (Constitutional rights do extend beyond our borders and even beyond the skin of our citizens.) This will lead to the DoJ pursuing the cases against the detainees in good faith based on as much declassified material as they are allowed. Then, a jury will decide.
